Claims Assistance
The medical association offers a Claims Assistance Service to aid its members in collecting slow payments from health insurance companies. The Fee & Insurance Mediation Committee can also assist you in appealing denials from insurance companies. This valuable service has returned thousands of dollars to physicians.

Courtesy Cards
For convenience and enjoyment, members, their families, and their employees are eligible to take advantage of discount courtesy cards for various attractions in California. Currently, we have tickets to Disneyland, Knotts Berry Farm, the San Diego Zoo, Santa Cruz Boardwalk, Six Flags Magic Mountain, and Marine World-Africa USA. Credentials Verification
The Credentials Verification Service (CVS) is owned and operated by the Medical Association and provides verification of initial application information for hospital medical staffs, health plans, medical groups, surgery centers, etc.
This valuable service focuses on

• Eliminating duplicative credentialing efforts through standardized forms and centralized verification investigations.
• Eliminating additional excessive expense, in time and money, that occurs when each resource entity supplies the same information to various facilities.
• Synchronizing the reappointment process so practitioners have one reappointment date at all participating entities.
• Maintaining confidentiality of centralized physician files.

Legal Defense Fund
In the event of inquiries from the Medical Board of California or the Osteopathic Medical Board of California, Medical Association members are entitled to financial assistance in obtaining legal advise. Up to a lifetime limit of $25,000 may be provided only after an accusation has been filed against the member. Upon receiving an initial inquiry, physician members should contact the Executive Director for forms or further information. This service is available only to Active members of SMCMA.

Physician Referral Service
The Medical Association, as a service to the public and its membership, maintains a Physician Referral Service that handles approximately 1,000 calls per month. Requests for referrals are responded to on the basis of specialty, location, and/or special medical programs. The caller receives three randomly chosen physician member names and phones numbers. The names of the referred physicians are rotated electronically so that all members participating in the program receive association referrals. If you would like to be included in this program, please call SMCMA to request a "Physician Referral Service Participation Agreement" form.

Membership Directory
Members receive a complimentary copy of the SMCMA annual Membership Directory, a valuable resource for making and receiving referrals, referencing the many health agencies and pharmacies in the county, and other important information.

The Bulletin
The SMCMA monthly publication, the Bulletin, features articles, news, and commentary of interest to, and often written by, association members.

The News
The newsletter, the News, mailed monthly to the membership, is packed with late-breaking news of the profession in an easy-to-read format.

Professional liability coverage is available through the NORCAL Mutual Insurance Company at competitive rates.
