Whether you are a solo physician looking for resources and support to help your practice succeed, or a large practice member interested in supporting organized medicine and shaping public policy, your membership in the San Mateo County Medical Association and California Medical Association is a valuable investment in your future.
Empower your practice
Physicians today, especially those in solo practice, are under a tremendous amount of pressure to streamline their business operations while still providing access and quality care to their patients. Complex federal and state regulations change regularly but still must be met. The daily business of practicing medicine also brings problems with contracting, billing, and payment…all of which take your attention away from patient care—the reason you went into medicine in the first place.
When you join SMCMA/CMA, you hire a powerful staff to help your practice grow and succeed. Looking to connect with more patients? Our Physician Referral Service makes thousands of referrals to SMCMA members each year. Confused by healthcare reform? We can help you understand how it affects your practice and give you the tools to stay compliant with ever-changing regulations. Reimbursement disputes? We work directly with public and private payers to resolve them on your behalf. Conflicts with patients or insurance companies? Our mediation and medical review committees can help settle such disputes before they escalate. Want to network with other medical professionals and keep current on vital healthcare issues? Our educational seminars, social events, and complimentary publications can help you do that.
Support organized medicine
Critical issues affecting the practice of medicine are being decided in the legislative arena at a fast and furious pace--issues that affect all physicians and require the concerted action of physicians from all specialties. Organized medicine is strongest when more individual physicians speak up and are heard. The stronger we are, the greater the opportunity for success.
Your SMCMA membership enables us to take action and influence policy on the issues that affect you. Our efforts protecting the landmark Medical Injury Compensation Act (MICRA) have helped protect patient safety while keeping medical costs—and malpractice premiums—affordable. We have aggressively advocated against Medicare and Medi-Cal cuts that impact patients’ access to care and put physicians’ economic viability at risk. Our Community Service Foundation promotes public health and wellness through its Hep B Free San Mateo program, which provides free screening and immunization to at-risk individuals; and our Walk with a Doc program that fosters healthy activity in people of all ages and fitness levels.
