Q1 2024 Town Hall with CMA President Dr. Tanya Spirtos April 1, 2024 Areas of interest(s): 2024 CMA Initiatives, Community engagement, Town Hall On March 20th, SMCMA hosted its first Virtual Town Hall of 2024 featuring California Medical Association President, Dr. Tanya Spirtos. Dr. Spirtos shared information about current CMA initiatives focused on health equity and access along with other current topics impacting the practice of medicine in California. During the event, Dr. Spirtos introduced CMA's 2024 Areas of Focus, which include increasing access to care, addressing healthcare affordability, and protecting against the corporatization of medicine. Dr. Spirtos also shared CMA Sponsored Bills in 2024, what CMA is doing to reduce administrative burdens and respond to scope expansion efforts, and an overview of the 2024 Protect Access to Healthcare ballot initiative. Following the informative presentation by Dr. Spirtos, a Q&A session was moderated by SMCMA President Dr. Cindy Cooper to address community questions and concerns. Dr. Spirtos is a board-certified obstetrician-gynecologist who practices in Redwood City. She was installed as the 155th CMA President in October, 2023 and is only the fourth woman to hold the position. Dr. Spirtos has been involved in organized medicine in California since 1985 and is a proud member of both the San Mateo and Santa Clara County Medical Associations. Virtual Town Hall events will be hosted quarterly in 2024, so be on the lookout for more activities!
