SMCMA Delegation Participates in 154th CMA House of Delegates November 5, 2025 Areas of interest(s): advocacy; HOD; District VII In October, the California Medical Association (CMA) convened its 154th annual House of Delegates (HOD) in Los Angeles, bringing together more than 800 physicians and medical students to debate policy and provide direction for CMA’s legislative, regulatory, and legal advocacy at both the state and federal levels. This year’s meeting centered on a single major issue: responding to federal funding cuts and other attacks on health care, public health and medicine – with delegates reaffirming the commitment of organized medicine in California to protecting access, strengthening the physician workforce, and defending science-based care. At the conclusion of the meeting, Dr. Rene Bravo took office as CMA’s 157th President. Dr. Bravo is a Pediatrician who practices in San Luis Obispo. In addition, Dr. Anna Yap was elected to serve as CMA’s Vice Speaker for the next three years. Dr. Yap is an Emergency Physician and Assistant Professor at UC Davis. A delegation of Physician Leaders from your SMCMA attended the meeting as representatives from District VII, which also includes the Santa Clara County Medical Association, and the Santa Cruz-Monterey Medical Association. During the meeting, Delegates testified on proposed resolutions and debated key policy issues affecting the practice of medicine and patient care across California. They helped shape CMA policy positions on topics ranging from reimbursement reform and public-health funding to physician workforce development and healthcare access. In addition to voting on major resolutions, SMCMA Delegates engaged in caucus discussions and networking sessions with physicians from across the state – ensuring that the voice and perspective of San Mateo County physicians were represented in CMA’s advocacy agenda for the coming year. The SMCMA Delegation included: Dr. Cynthia Cooper, SMCMA Immediate Past President; Dr. David Goldschmid, Past President; Dr. Vincent Mason, Past President; Dr. Robert Spencer, Delegate; Dr. Bill Tatomer, Past President; Dr. Barbara Weissman, Past President; and Keith Darby, Executive Director.
