SMCMA Endorses Proposition 35 October 3, 2024 Areas of interest(s): General Election, Prop 35, Protect Access to Health Care In September, the Board of Directors of your SMCMA unanimously voted to support Proposition 35 - the Protect Access to Health Care ballot measure - which will appear in next month’s general election. Physicians are encouraged to become advocates for this important measure and to VOTE YES on Prop 35. If passed, Prop 35 will: Provide over $2 billion annually for primary and specialty care; Provide funding for health care workforce education and training; Dedicate funding to improve health care without raising taxes; Prevent the state from redirecting these funds for non-health care purposes; Institute strong accountability provisions; Protect and improve care for all Californians; and Ensure equitable access to care for the most vulnerable Californians. In addition to joining the #YESON35 coalition, SMCMA has provided a financial contribution to the campaign to support physician awareness and education. Ongoing informational support has also been provided, including the September “Prop 35 Explained” Town Hall, outreach to local Medical Staffs and public officials, and as an information resource for the Peninsula community through social media and newsletter updates. SMCMA urges all physicians in San Mateo County to take action by joining the coalition, sharing your stories, and telling your patients and community why voting YES on Prop 35 will protect and enhance our health care system for all.
